To ensure the software does not run after restarting your PC in Windows Selective Startup mode, within the Access Protection Properties you must clear the Enable Access Protection check box.
  • To reboot in Windows Selective Startup mode- This section explains how to restart your PC in Windows Selective Startup mode.
To turn off Access Protection within McAfee antivirus software

Note: This section applies only to McAfee antivirus software. If you are using other antivirus software, for further information please refer to the manufacturer’s documentation.

1. Open the Start menu, choose All Programs, choose McAfee then choose VirusScan Console.

The VirusScan Console window appears.

2. Double-click Access Protection.

The Access Protection Properties window appears.

3. Clear the Enable Access Protection check box, click Apply then click OK.

The VirusScan Console window appears.

4. To close the VirusScan Console window, open the Task menu and choose Exit.

You have now turned off the McAfee antivirus Access Protection and can restart the PC in Windows Selective Startup mode. For further information about this, please refer to the following section.

Note: Once you have returned to the Normal Startup mode, to return to the original Access Protection setting, you must repeat the above steps and select the Enable Access Protection check box.

To reboot in Windows Selective Startup mode

To enable Selective Startup mode, you should use the System Configuration Utility as follows:

Note: The System Configuration Utility is only available in Windows 2003 Server or Windows XP and above.

1. Open the Start menu, choose Run then in the Open box, enter msconfig and click OK.

Windows Vista – Click the Windows start button, in the Start Search box type msconfig then press Enter.

2. The System Configuration Utility window appears.

3. Select Selective Startup then clear the Load Startup Items check box and click the Services tab.

The Services window appears.

4.                Select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box then click Disable All.
All non-Microsoft services are deactivated.

5.                To allow those services required for ACT! by Sage to run, select the following check boxes, click Apply then click OK.
